Cherry Marley Leads USF Women’s Golf at American Championship

Cherry Marley earned all-conference honors

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (April 22, 2026)Cherry Marley led the University of South Florida women's golf team at the American Championship. The Bulls spent three days at the Southern Hills Plantation. Marley finished fourth on the individual leaderboard, and the Bulls finished ninth.  
 
Marley opened the tournament with a 68 (-4), birding five of the first nine holes. She posted a second-round score of 73 (+73). Across the three days, she tallied 10 birdies. She finished the tournament in fourth place with a three-round total of 216 (E). She earned all-conference honors with her fourth-place finish, as the top seven individual golfers received the accolade. 
 
Holly McLean recorded a top-25 finish. She started the tournament with a 72 (E) and three birdies. She finished the championship with seven birdies. Emma Kim recorded seven birdies over her three rounds. Alice Webb and Regina Plascencia each finished the tournament with three birdies. 
 
The NCAA Championship selection show airs Wednesday, April 29, at 1 p.m. on the Golf Channel.

Tampa native AJ Newell, a former LPGA Tour Player and NCAA All-American, enters her second season as head coach of USF women's golf. In her first season, she coached Leonor Medeiros to the American All-Conference Team. Newell coached the Bulls to four top-10 finishes in the 2024-25 season.
 
Newell took over leadership of the Bulls' program following a successful three-year stint as assistant coach at the University of Michigan, where she helped guide the Wolverines to three straight NCAA Regional appearances, a 2022 Big Ten title, and a trip to the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals.
