OUTSIDE COMPETITION
There are varying NCAA rules with regards to outside competition for a team or individual sport. For both team and individual sports, USF requires that a student-athlete completes an outside competition form and gets approval prior to the competition. For USF student-athletes this form can be found
HERE.
Unattached Competition
For those student-athletes who are planning to compete in an open event unattached, the below restrictions must be followed in order to compete unattached:
- SA represents only himself/herself in competition.
- SA does not receive any expenses from USF to compete in the event.
- SA may not wear any current season USF apparel or equipment while competing.
- USF coaching staff members may not provide coaching while they are competing in the event.
PRIZE MONEY
In individual sports, student-athletes may accept prize money based on finish up to actual and necessary expenses. Actual and necessary expenses may be calculated over the course of the calendar year (January - December), rather than on an event-by-event basis. Student-athletes are required to provide the Athletic Compliance Office with documentation of expenses & prize money to protect against exceeding permissible prize limits and jeopardizing your eligibility.
Outside Team
Prior to a student-athlete participating on a team in a league during the summer vacation period (after May 1 for Soccer and Volleyball), the league must be certified in accordance with the NCAA rules and regulations.
