Student-Athlete Employment
Student-athletes may be employed during the summer and/or academic year. Please note the following conditions to ensure that you are being employed in a permissible manner:
- You must be compensated only for work you actually perform.
- You must be compensated at the same pay rate as others employed for similar services
- You may not be paid because of your athletics reputation or personal following you have achieved as an athlete.
- The employer may not use your name, image or likeness to promote the company or its interests.
Unless you have exhausted your athletics eligibility, all student-athletes who wish to work are required to contact their coach and the Office of Athletic Compliance prior to accepting off-campus employment.
Camps/Clinics
It is permissible for student-athletes to work at USF and non-USF athletic camps/clinics.
Private Lessons
It is permissible for student-athletes to teach private lessons ("fee-for-lessons"), as long as the following conditions are followed:
- USF facilities are not used.
- Playing lessons shall not be permitted.
- USF obtains and keeps on file documentation of the recipient of the lesson(s) and the fee for the lesson(s) provided during any time of the year.
- The compensation is paid by the lesson recipient (or the recipient's family) and not another individual or entity.
- Instruction to each individual is comparable to the instruction that would be provided during a private lesson when the instruction involves more than one individual at a time.
- The student-athlete does not use his or her name, picture or appearance to promote or advertise the availability of fee-for-lesson sessions.
Student-athletes must contact the Office of Athletic Compliance to obtain the required paperwork before engaging in private lessons.
