USF Women Defeat North Florida 87-49 For 10th Win; Dickson Pours In 35

Tampa, FL (December 28, 2005) ? The University of South Florida women's basketball team got a game-high 35 points from All-America Candidate Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL), including 28 in the first half, en route to an 87-49 rout of North Florida tonight at the Sun Dome.

The Ospreys (2-7) got off to an early 2-0 lead just 43 seconds into the game and would battle the Bulls (10-2) trailing by one, 13-12, with 15:02 left in the half. USF however would use a 22-0 run to blow the game open, 35-12 with 8:36 left before the intermission. The Bulls would eventually take a commanding 54-23 lead into the locker room at the half on the heals of a blistering 64.7 percent (22-34) shooting performance from the field.

USF came out in the second half and extended its lead to as many as 41 points, 80-39, with 5:57 left in the game. The Bulls would finish the contest hitting 34-62 shots from the field for 54.8 percent.

“I thought we had two good practices coming back from Christmas break and thought we were prepared for North Florida,” said USF head coach Jose Fernandez. “Now we have the No. 3 ranked team in the country (LSU, Friday night) to prepare for. We're 10-2 now and I like the way we played in the first half. I think we ran our lanes well and shot the ball well. I think, however, we need to do a much better job defensively in our zone defense. We played a little bit tonight but we're going to have to mix it up on Friday against LSU.”

On the day, USF scored 38 points off 27 UNF turnovers, while committing a season low nine miscues.

In addition to Dickson, the nation's leading scorer, Ezria Parsons (Bushnell, FL) and Jessica Jackson (Roswell, GA) would add 12 points apiece in the win.

The Bulls will not hit the road for their final two non-conference games facing No. 3/3 LSU on Friday, Dec. 30 at 3 p.m. (ET). USF will travel to Miami to the take on Florida International on Monday, Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live locally in the Tampa area on WTWD 910 AM or by logging onto the internet at GoUSFBulls.com.
