(February 19, 2006) Tampa, Fla. -- USF had to win three of its four three-set matches today against Georgia State to claim a 5-2 win. All six USF players contributed with Federico Barton and Mark Gattiker helping USF to two out of three doubles wins despite each losing in their singles competition.
USF (1-1) jumped to a 2-1 lead with the doubles point and Marc Jaeger's win at number four singles in straight sets. But then each of the final four matches went into a third set with USF winning at numbers one, three and five singles.
Perhaps the most impressive of the three-set wins was Barragan's at number three. After failing to win a single game in the first set, Barragan went on to defeat Clarence Boyd 7-6, 6-3.
Georgia State dropped to 3-2.
