USF Downs West Virginia 66-56 In Home Finale

Tampa, FL (February 25, 2006) ? The University of South Florida women's basketball team closed out its regular season home slate in winning fashion tonight with a 66-56 victory over West Virginia at the Sun Dome.

The win raises the Bulls' record to 18-10 and 8-7 in the BIG EAST Conference with one regular season game left at Georgetown on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The victory also marked USF's 12th win on their home floor equaling the second most in school history.

The Bulls got 24 points from All-America candidate ? and the nation's leading scorer ? Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) and 14-point, 10-rebound effort from Ezria Parsons (Bushnell, FL).

USF jumped out in the first half and pretty much took control from the opening tip. The Mountaineers (12-14, 4-11 BIG EAST) led just twice during the game, at 2-0, and 12-11 with 14:16 remaining in the first half. WVU would tie the game just one after the Mountaineers final lead.

The Bulls would use an 11-0 run late in the first half to take its biggest lead of the stanza, a 13-point 33-20 lead on a three-pointer by Jessica Jackson (Roswell, GA) with three minutes left before the intermission.

USF would eventually take a 37-25 lead into the locker room at the half.

The Bulls would not let up early in the second half extending their lead to a game-high 19 points twice.

USF, however, would have to sustain one final push from the Mountaineers midway through the half. The Bulls found themselves going cold following a Dickson lay up with 12:24 left in the game and a 59-42 lead. West Virginia would cut USF's 17-point edge to nine points, 59-50, while the Bulls went for almost nine-and-a-half minutes until Nalini Miller (Capital Heights, MD) scored off a lay up with 3:02 left in the game.

West Virginia would never get closer the rest of the night.

USF shot 41.9 percent (26-62) on the night and used 127 Mountaineer turnovers to account for 18 points in the win.

The Bulls will close out the regular season on Tuesday, against the Hoyas before traveling to Hartford on Thursday for the BIG EAST Conference Tournament, March 4-7 at the Hartford Civic Center.
