TAMPA, Fla. (April 7, 2006) ? The USF Men's tennis team (3-11) lost its fifth-straight match Friday afternoon, suffering a 4-0 loss to No. 13 Virginia Commonwealth University.
Without top player Dirk Britzen, the Bulls were forced to play only two doubles matches and five singles matches.
With the No. 3 doubles match going to VCU, the team of Federico Barton and Mark Gattiker took Francesc Lleal and Sergi Arumi the distance at the No. 2 doubles, ultimately coming up short, 8-6.
With the doubles point in hand, the Rams (19-4) took the No. 2, 3 and 4 singles matches by almost the exact same score. USF's Marc Jaeger and Juan Barragan fell to VCU's Lleal and Arumi by the same score of 7-5, 6-3; while Dillon Brozyna lost to Georges-Alexandre Israel, 7-6, 6-3.
The Bulls will return to the court on Sunday afternoon to face the No. 27 Louisville Cardinals. First serve is set for Noon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
