PALO ALTO, Calif. (May 25, 2006) ? University of South Florida sophomore Courtney Vernon's season came to an end Wednesday evening when Alice Barnes of Stanford defeated Vernon, 7-5, 6-2 in the round of 64 at the NCAA Singles Championships in Palo Alto Calif.
Vernon finished her sophomore campaign with an overall 28-2 record, going a perfect 20-0 in dual match competition. She was ranked No. 40 in the May 1 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and was ranked as high as 37 on the season.
“Courtney had a great season,” said first year head coach Agustin Moreno. “Unfortunately she ran up against a tough player in Alice Barnes who's team won the NCAA's yesterday. This experience can only help Courtney in the future.”
