The University of South Florida men's golf team finished in 12th place at the weather-shortened Memphis Intercollegiate played at the Colonial Country Club. The Bulls improved by 14 strokes in the second round, shooting a 298, for a two-round tournament total of 610.
The third round, originally scheduled for today, was dropped after severe weather suspended yesterday's play midway through round two.
Senior Tyler Hitchcock tied for 13th overall out of 87 participants. Hitchcock had the top USF round of the day with a one-under-par 71.
Competing as an individual, junior Jakob McKinley tied for 18th, shooting a 75 and 72 for a tournament total of 147.
Freshman Matt Cooney finished tied for 45 with a 152. Cooney fired a three-over-par 75 in round two today.
Sophomore Raj Nahal shot a 155 and tied for 61st. Freshman Robby Carl finished tied for 72nd with a score of 158. Senior Jason Elliot ended at 160, placing him tied for 77th.
The final tournament on USF's fall season schedule is the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge, Oct. 27-28, to be played in Orlando at the Grand Cypress Resort.
“Tyler Hitchcock played well, Jakob McKinley played well,” said USF head coach Jim Fee. “They had a good tournament but as a team we didn't finish where we wanted to. We have to continue to work hard at practice and play smarter in tournaments. We're looking forward to the BIG EAST/MAC Challenge in Orlando.”
