USF Women Lose Third Straight With 75-63 Setback To No. 19/19 Marquette

MILWAUKEE, WI (February 24, 2007) -- Christina Quaye scored 26 points and Krystal
Ellis added 21 to lead Marquette to a 75-63 win over the University of South Florida.

The Bulls (18-10, 8-7 BIG EAST) jumped out to a 15-point lead, 38-23, with 2:14 left in the first half and a 10-point lead at the intermission, on the heals of a remarkable shooting performance by USF. The Bulls hit 51.6 percent (16-31) of its shots from the field and an even more impressive 72.7 percent (8-11) from behind the three-point arc in the first stanza.

Shantia Grace (Sarasota, FL) and All-America and National Player of the Year Candidate Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) combined for the shooting from three-point range with Grace hitting 5-7. Her fifth three-point field goal of the game with 6:30 left in the first half was good enough for a share of the fourth most made in a single game in school history.

The Golden Eagles (23-5, 11-4 BIG EAST), however, would come out in the second half and hold USF to just seven field goals in the final 20 minutes and outscore the Bulls 45-23 en route to the win.

Grace scored 23 points and Nalini Miller (Capital Heights, MD) added 12 for
the Bulls.

The Bulls' loss is the team's third straight setback and its fifth in it's last six games. It's their first three-game losing streak since dropping three-straight during the 2005-06 campaign to Pittsburgh (66-64) on Jan. 8, Rutgers (66-65) on Jan. 11 and Cincinnati (89-87) on Jan. 15.
