Pulley Moves Into 5th-Place Tie

HANAHAN, S.C. ? University of South Florida senior Kylene Pulley carded an even 72 to move into a tie for fifth after the second day of the Cougar Classic being held at Yeaman's Hall Golf Club in Hanahan, S.C.

Pulley is three strokes behind So-Hyun Park (Notre Dame) who leads the field with a 5-under par 139. Lisa Maunu (Notre Dame) and Marci Turner (Tennessee) are tied at 4-under. Pulley is tied with one other player at 142.

Tennessee is a top the leaderboard in the team event, shooting two even rounds of 288. Notre Dame is in second at 579 and Texas is in third at 5-over (581). The Bulls are 13th, with a 599, at 23 strokes back.

USF senior Christina Jones is eight strokes behind Pulley, carding a 150, which ties her for 42nd. Junior Gennifer Mendez cut three strokes off Monday's score, recording a 78-75 ? 153 with one round to play. Sophomore Ana Lopez and freshman Emily Van Etten are tied for 74th after each recording a two-day total of 156. Van Etten and Lopez are both playing in their first-ever events for USF.

“Overall I am pleased with the consistency of our games,” said first-year coach Marci Kornegay “We know where we are losing our strokes and continue to focus on our birdie conversions.”

The Bulls tee off in final round action beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The three-day event, hosted by the College of Charleston, will continue at the Yeaman's Hall Plantation Course, where the ladies will play 18 more holes on the par-72, 6,159 yard course. Admission is free to the event and fans that cannot attend will be able to follow the action at www.golfstatresults.com.

Teams participating this year are Alabama, College of Charleston, Florida State, Furman, Louisiana State, Maryland, Miami, Mississippi, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Richmond, South Carolina, USF, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and UNC Greensboro.

Of the 20 teams, 12 participated in last year's NCAA Regional and seven finished ranked in the top 30 in the nation. Tennessee finished last season ranked 14th, while Texas A&M was 15th, North Carolina ranked 18th and 24th in the nation was Florida State.  South Carolina was 25th and 27th was Alabama.  Rounding out the top 30 of 2006-07 was Louisiana State at 28th.
