CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of South Florida baseball team came up short, 6-1, to the Cincinnati Bearcats in the first game of the double header in Ohio Saturday afternoon. The game was a scheduled seven-inning BIG EAST outing.
The Bulls are now 11-9 overall and 3-2 in conference action. Cincinnati improves to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Junior Trey Manz was 2-for-3 with a double and a single, while senior Joey Angelberger ripped a double down the left line and freshman Ryan Lockwood singled to left field in the sixth.
Freshman Randy Fontanez dropped to 1-2 on the mound, striking out three, but allowing six runs from 10 hits in 4.0 innings. Freshman right hander Kevin Quackenbush came in for relief in the fifth allowing no runs from one hit while recording two Ks.
The second game of the day will begin at approximately 4 p.m. at Marge Schott Stadium. Sophomore Matt Quevedo is expected to get the start for the Bulls.
