TAMPA, Fla. - Despite senior Joey Angelberger's grand slam in the fifth inning, the University of South Florida baseball team lost 10-7 to the Louisville Cardinals Friday night in Tampa.

The grand slam was Angelberger's second slam of the year and the team's fifth this season.

"[Zack] Pitts threw Angelberger a breaking ball and he hit it," said head coach Lelo Prado. "It was a great at bat and a great hit for the team. We fought hard, we can't complain."

Junior Addison Maruszak had a stellar outing, batting 5-for-5 at the plate, all five singles, while tallying one RBI and scoring one run.

Louisville scored a run in the first inning to take the early lead, then added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth before Angelberger's grand slam tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. USF then took the 5-4 lead in the sixth. UofL tallied two in the seventh, but USF answered with a pair of its own to hold on to the one-run lead. In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals recorded a grand slam to take the 10-7 win.

On the mound, junior Daniel Thomas made his fifth start of the season, striking out six, but allowing four runs from four hits in 4.2 innings. Sophomore Shawn Sanford was tagged with the loss after giving up three hits and three runs in 0.1 innings.

Angelberger and freshman Jon Koscso each had a pair of hits and junior Brian Hobbs tallied his first triple of the season, a shot to center field in the ninth.

The Bulls and Cardinals face off again Saturday night at 7 p.m., then wrap up the three-game BIG EAST series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

After the weekend series, USF travels to Stetson on Tuesday and Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday for non-conference midweek action. The game at Stetson begins at 6 p.m. and the first pitch at B-CU is slated for 7 p.m.
