TAMPA, Fla. - The University of South Florida (15-18, 5-9) baseball team lost 10-2 to the Louisville Cardinals (19-13, 6-5) Saturday evening at Red McEwen Field in Tampa, Fla.

"You have to hate to lose and right now I don't think we hate to lose," said assistant coach Lazer Collazo. "We have to come back and battle on Sunday because tomorrow is a must-win game. Pretty much every weekend is a must-win for us from here on out."

With 13 league games to play, USF currently is in eighth place in the BIG EAST. The top eight teams in the conference are selected to play in the BIG EAST Baseball Championships held at Bright House Networks Field in Clearwater, Fla., May 20-24.

On Saturday, Louisville scored in the first inning for the second-consecutive night, this time with a pair of runs from a single, double and sac fly. The Cardinals scored two in the third and fifth then put two more on the board in the eighth before the Bulls scored one in the bottom of the frame. Louisville tallied two more in the ninth and USF scored one from a hit and two drawn walks, coming up eight runs short.

The Bulls were held scoreless through eight innings, until junior outfielder Brian Hobbs cranked his fifth home run of the season over the right field fence. Hobbs' home run is USF's 23rd of the season, surpassing the 2007 season total of 22. Hobbs collected both of USF's RBIs in the game, his 14th and 15th of the season, with his solo shot, along with a double and a drawn walk.

In the bottom of the ninth, freshman Ryan Lockwood extended his hitting streak to 16 games with an infield single. He also reached base in the fourth and sixth innings by drawing walks.

Freshman right handed pitcher Randy Fontanez was tagged with the loss, dropping to 2-3 this season. He tossed 120 pitches in 7.0 innings, allowing eight runs from 13 hits, striking out four and issuing two walks.

The first pitch of the Sunday baseball game between the University of South Florida and Louisville has been changed from 1 p.m. to noon. The matchup is the final game of the three-game BIG EAST series played at Red McEwen Field in Tampa.
