Vasenina Wins Two Matches to Advance at All-American

Five Bulls Advance On Day Two Of FGCU Classic

Tampa- The University of South Florida women's tennis team finished its second day at the FGCU Classic on Sunday.

Senior Melissa Koning and junior Irene Rehberger competed in doubles action on Sunday after defeating Adna Curukovic and Olga Bazhanova of NW State 8-4 on Saturday. Koning and Rehberger competed against Michelle Sammons and Jennifer Rabot of Purdue. Rehberger and Koning topped Sammons and Rabot 8-5 which advanced them to the finals in the Flight 1 doubles bracket.

Freshman Ecaterina Vasenina and senior Allyn Mueller competed in doubles action on Sunday against Remi Martin and Anna Dushkina of Purdue. The two doubles pairs fought to the very end in this match but it would be Vasenina and Mueller who would fall to Martin and Dushkina 9-7.

Senior Natalia Guevara and senior Jessica Zok picked up the Bulls second doubles win in their match against Zara Harutyunyan and Jeremie Benjamin of Akron. This was another close match for the Bulls but it was Guevera and Zok who would leave with the 8-6 win which advanced them to the finals in the Flight 3 doubles bracket.

Vasenina also competed in singles action on Sunday against Rachel Pye of FAMU. Both players battled it out in the first set with Vasenina picking up the 7-6(5) first set win. Vasenina would go on to beat Pye in the second set 6-3 which advanced her to the finals in the Flight 1 singles bracket.

Rehberger also competed in the Flight 1 singles bracket on Sunday against Zara Harutyunyan of Akron. Rehberger dropped the first set to Harutyunyan 6-1 and then came back and won the second set 6-3 which sent the match into a tiebreaker set. Rehberger would top Harutyunyan 10-5 in the tiebreaker set which advanced her to the finals in the Flight 1 singles bracket where she will face her teammate Vasenina on Monday.

Koning picked up the second singles win for the Bulls on Sunday in her Flight 2 singles match against Britany Dean of FAMU. Koning swept past Dean in two sets 6-0. 6-0. Koning will meet Angelina Jogasuria of Akron in the finals of the Flight 2 singles bracket on Monday.

Senior Natalia Guevara competed in singles action for the Bulls on Sunday in her Flight 3 singles match against Angelika Jogasuria of Akron. Guevara fell to Jogasuria in two sets 6-2, 6-1. Guevara will play against Bhavani Tirumurti of Purdue on Monday and the winner of that match will earn a third place finish at the FGCU Classic.

Senior Allyn Mueller also competed in singles action for the Bulls on Sunday in her Flight 4 singles match against Martina Rubesova of NW State. Mueller dropped her match to Rubesova in two sets 6-4, 6-1. Mueller will play against Prang Pantusart of Akron on Monday and the winner of that match will earn a third place finish at the FGCU Classic.

Competition will continue at the FGCU Classic on Monday with matches taking place throughout the entire day.
