CORAL GABLES, Fla.- The University of South Florida baseball team fell victim to consecutive Miami five-run innings as the Bulls fell to 14-7 to the No. 11 Hurricanes Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park in Coral Gables.

Down 2-0 in the fourth and with Stephen Hunt standing on second, sophomore Sam Mende evened-up the score with a deep drive down the left field scoring Stephen Hunt, who doubled to start the inning. The homer was the second of the season for Mende.

Miami quickly answered with a five spot in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by a three-run homer by Ryan Perry, the first of three Miami long balls on the night.

Miami made it tough from the outset on Bulls' starter Andrew Salguiero. Salguiero (1-1) lasted just 3.2 innings giving up seven runs on eight hits while taking the loss.

USF scratched two runs across in fifth on an RBI single by Jonathan Koscso and a sacrifice fly by Todd Brazeal, which narrowed the Miami advantage to 7-4.  The Bulls let a big opportunity slip away as by leaving the bases loaded to end the fifth.

For the game, USF left 11 runners on bases while Miami left eight runners stranded.

The Bulls could not get any closer as the Hurricanes responded with another five runs in the fifth and followed it up by tacking on another run in the sixth.

Koscso picked up his second RBI single of the evening with a two-out base hit up the middle to score Luis Llerena in the eighth inning.

Llerena had three hits on the night in a homecoming of sorts. A native of nearby Hialeah, Fla., Llerena muscled a two- out RBI single in the top of the ninth to account for the Bulls' final runs.

David Gutierrez picked up the win for Miami going 5.0 innings, scattering eight hits, while allowing four runs.

After taking two of three from Villanova, the Bulls will jump back into BIG EAST play by hosting Seton Hall in the Bulls second to last home conference series of 2010. Both Friday and Saturday's contests are slated for a 7 p.m. first pitch, while Sunday's get-away game will start at Noon.

Game Notes
Stephen Hunt collected two hits on the night for his team leading 18th multi-hit game of the season and his third in four games… Hunt, Jonathan Koscso, Chad Taylor and Luis Llerena were the only Bulls to have more than one hit but each USF starter had a hit… Taylor has been red-hot … Over the last four games he is seven for his last 15 raising his average to a season high .287... Hunt's fourth-inning double was his team leading 16th of the season and 22nd extra base hit of the season…Junior Carlin extended his hit streak to a season high 11 games… Mende's homer is the seventh of his career… USF has homered in three straight games for the first time this season.
