Life is different for an up-and-coming collegiate golfer, or so we might think. For sophomore
Shena Yang, college life is not so out of the ordinary.
Yang began playing golf at age seven under the tutelage of her father, John Yang. The father and daughter duo are still a force to reckon with.
“My dad has been coaching me since I started. We still make a great team,” Yang said.
Like many other underclassman, Yang is undecided on a major, however, she does not lack goals.
“I hope to go pro after college,” Yang said.
Being the crown the jewel of the USF golf program can bring a great deal of pressure. Yang spends her time off of the course much like any other college student.
“Besides golf, I love to travel and eat,” Yang said. “I like to watch food network and try to learn how to cook, but it turns out that I like eating more than cooking.”
“I always have fun making pizza. It gets messy but I love eating it with my family,” said Yang
Yang, who has family in South Korea, loves visiting Pusan.
“There is so much to do there and it is just like New York City,” Yang said.
Boone, North Carolina is also a favorite travel destination for Yang.
“The weather is wonderful and the food there is amazing,” said Yang.
The college phenom has also traveled to Japan and most of the East Coast of the United States.
Student athletes, like their classmates, face the struggle of balancing the responsibilities of the classroom with the added pressure of competing in division one college athletics. However, Yang takes it all in stride.
“Outside of golf, I plan on traveling all over the world and trying new things,” Yang said.
