It wasn't a thing of beauty, but head coach Jose Fernandez will certainly take it.
Inga Orekhova led three Bulls in double figures with 14 points in the USF women's basketball team's 61-48 victory at Marquette on Tuesday night in Milwaukee, Wisc.
USF (14-13, 6-7) shot 33 percent, but limited Marquette to just 16 field goals (28 percent from the field) in the team's second straight victory.
"Particularly it was a very ugly basketball game," USF head coach Jose Fernandez said. "The game never really had a flow to it. Offensively we didn't play very well, but at the end of the day we found a win. We went on the road and got one."
Andrell Smith was in double figures for the fourth straight game with 11 points and Kaneisha Saunders helped out with 10 points as USF got back to .500 on the road.
USF came into the contest averaging 21 forced turnovers per game and got after Marquette for 24. Arlesia Morse posted a game-high 20 points, but no other Golden Eagle finished in double figures.
The Bulls raced out to a 31-22 halftime lead and never looked back a game after holding Villanova to just 39 points.
"I thought in the first half we defended," Fernandez said.
The Bulls return home to host Pittsburgh 7 p.m. Saturday at the USF Recreation Center. Admission is free for fans.
"Now we get back home," Fernandez said. "You get that one and you're back at .500 in the league."
