WEST POINT, MISS. (Oct. 22, 2014) – A strong final round propelled the University of South Florida women's golf team to a second place finish Wednesday, edging out conference opponents Houston and Memphis at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational.
The Bulls' lone senior Erin Selfridge led the way on the final day, carding a par-4 eagle and four birdies on the front nine of the par-72 Old Waverly Course to shoot a 69 (-3) as USF posted a strong 296 (+8) to jump from fourth to second with a three-round score of 882, behind only Mississippi State in the 13-team field. Selfridge posted a three-day final of 221 (+5), good for 14th place overall.
After cruising through the second round with a 66 (-6) Tuesday, sophomore Ashley Burke posted a respectable 75 (+3) Wednesday, with a pair of par-3 birdies, to hold onto a second-place individual finish as well. Burke finished the tournament shooting 213 (-3), with 13 birdies in 54 holes.
A hot start and solid finish from sophomore Nicole Autrique landed her in the top 20 as well, as Autrique recorded a 69 (-3) on the first day, and shot 76 (+4) Wednesday to card a 224 (+8) overall, finishing 20th in the field. Autrique shot one under par in 17 holes Wednesday, coming one tough hole short of posting two scores of par or better over the weekend.
In her first tournament as a Bull, junior Michelle Reyes continued to play well, posting a 76 (+4) to round out the scorers on the final day. Reyes shot 229 (+13) over 54 holes for the Bulls.
