KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C., OCT. 28, 2014 – The USF women's golf team continued its hot play of late with a big final round Tuesday at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
USF recorded the lowest score of the day, shooting 289 (+1) as a team on the par-72 Turtle Point Golf Course to jump three spots into fourth place in a 20-team tournament. The Bulls topped No. 31 Campbell, No. 39 Kansas and No. 42 Kansas State in the 54-hole tourney, shooting 891 over three days to finish behind only Coastal Carolina, No. 25 GRU Augusta and No. 30 Furman.
Sophomore Ashley Burke led USF in a birdie parade, carding five birdies, including three on the front nine to contribute a team-low 70 (-2). Following in Burke's footsteps was senior Erin Selfridge, who knocked down four birdies to finish with a 71 (-1) Wednesday. Selfridge had the best overall tournament for USF, recording a three-day total of 222 (+6) to tie for 16th place overall, out of 104 golfers. Burke finished a stroke behind Selfridge, shooting 223 (+7) to tie for 20th overall.
Redshirt Freshman Maria Rodriguez registered the team's lone eagle, and followed it up with a strong finish of three birdies in her final six holes to shoot a 74 (+2), tying junior Michelle Reyes, whose two birdies helped her shoot a 74 (+2) as well. Rodriguez finished the tournament in a tie for 25th place, shooting 224 (+8) over three days. For full results, click HERE.
