MALIBU, Calif. (Jan. 31, 2015)— The 21st-ranked USF men's tennis team snapped it's two-game losing streak with an impressive 5-2 victory over 47th-ranked Pepperdine, Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
USF improved to 4-2 on the season, while Pepperdine dropped to 1-2. The Bulls are now 2-2 on the road and defeated the Waves in their home opener.
The Bulls changed up their doubles pairings, breaking up the sixth-ranked duo of Sasha Gozun and Roberto Cid. Cid teamed up with Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz at the No. 3 spot, while Gozun paired with Vadym Kalyuzhnyy at the No. 2 spot. Taking over at No. 1 was Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts.
Gozun and Kalyuzhnyy jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead before topping Rakshay Thakkar and Tom Hill, 6-1, at the No. 2 spot.
Clinching the doubles point for the Bulls was the tandem of Cid and Gonzalez-Muniz. The duo defeated Pedro Iamachkine and Luca Marquard, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot to give the Bulls the 1-0 lead going into singles.
USF extended its lead to 2-0 as Roberto Cid topped Stefan Menichella, 6-2, 6-2, at the premier spot. The win improves Cid's record to 4-2 on the season.
Clinching the match for the Bulls was Roberts with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot. Gozun added a three-set victory at the No. 3 spot just moments before Roberts clinched the win. Kalyuzhnyy secured the last victory for the Bulls with a 7-6, 5-7, 10-6 win on court five.
Pepperdine's two points came as Gonzalez-Muniz and Everth Dzib both dropped their matches on courts two and six, respectively.
