MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 20, 2015)- After a week off from competition, the USF men's tennis team dominated Boise State in the opening match of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
The number one seed in the tournament, USF defeated the Broncos, 4-0, to improve to 5-4 on the season.
The Bulls started off strong, taking the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Playing at No. 2 doubles, Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy won handily, 6-1. On court three, Roberto Cid and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz took a 7-5 victory to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles play, it was the back end of the lineup that dominated, with the Bulls taking wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6. Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz only dropped one game in his match, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Vadym Kalyuzhnyy took a 6-4, 6-1 win on court five. Clinching the match for the Bulls was Everth Dzib who won 6-4, 6-1.
The Bulls will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 21 as they face Texas Tech. Tech defeated fourth-seeded Auburn, 4-3 earlier Friday to advance to the winners bracket.
