MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 20, 2015)- The USF men's tennis advanced to the championship match of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic after defeating Texas Tech, 4-2, in the semifinal match.
For the second straight match, the Bulls took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Oliver Pramming and Justin Roberts took a 6-4 win at the premier spot while Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz and Roberto Cid dominated on court three to win, 6-1.
In singles, the Bulls took wins at one, two and five to take the match.
In the premier spot, No. 22 Roberto Cid avenged a first set loss by taking the next two. Cid won the second set handily, before being pushed to a tiebreak in the third. The junior took the match, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6, to clinch the victory for the Bulls.
Freshman Justin Roberts and sophomore Sasha Gozun earned the other two points for the Bulls. Gozun won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, while Roberts was pushed to three sets. The freshman dropped his first set before rebounding to take the next two, winning the match, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6.
Gonzalez-Muniz and Pramming both dropped their matches in straight sets. Pramming came close to forcing a third set, but ultimately fell, 6-4, 7-5.
The Bulls will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 22, as they play for the championship against Princeton.
