Viens Leads Bulls to First Conference Victory

TAMPA (Oct. 2, 2016)— Evelyne Viens netted a pair of goals to lead the USF women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Houston Sunday afternoon. The Bulls improved to 9-1-0, 1-1-0, while Houston dropped to 5-3-1, 0-2-0.

After being shut out on Thursday night, the Bulls netted two goals in the first fifteen minutes of the game to take a halftime lead and secure a conference victory.

In the fifth minute, Evelyne Viens fought her way through the Houston defense before taking a shot from 18 yards out for her 10th goal of the year. In the 13th minute, Viens netted her second goal of the game on assist from fellow freshman Yasmine Hall.

The Cougars got on the board in the 55th minute on a penalty kick by Vanessa Almaguer. A handball just inside the box set up the opportunity for the Cougars to cut the lead in half.

The USF defense played a strong game, allowing just six total shots and only three on goal.

  • Evelyne Viens is now the only Bull in double digit goals after her two-goal game.
  • Briana Blethen played 55 minutes for USF, her longest outing of the season.

  • Viens had three shots in the game to lead USF, all three being on goal.
  • Denise Schilte-Brown needs just two wins to reach 100 at USF.
