Bulls Make Program History With 20th Straight Win

Box Score

TAMPA, March 25, 2016 – With an 11-3 victory over the ECU Pirates, the USF softball team made history, setting the school record for consecutive wins with 20. The previous best of 19 was set in 2012 by the program's first Women's College World Series team.

Besides setting the school record, the Bulls also sealed a series win over the Pirates after picking up a 3-1 win on Thursday night to open the series. USF is now 28-9 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Bulls used four hits and a pair of ECU errors to plate five runs in the top of the second.

Lauren Evans drove in the first run of the game for the second straight game with an RBI double in the top of the second inning. Erica Nunn led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Evans would score the second run of the inning on a bases-loaded passed ball.

Pinch hitting for Kristen Wyckoff, Meredith Bissette recorded her first career hit, plating Cassidy Boyle and Astin Donovan. An error by the ECU shortstop and a single by Mia Fung plated Bissette, making it a 5-0 game.

ECU answered back in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with no outs and bringing up a pitching change as Susan Wysocki replaced Cheyenne Eggens. The Pirates used a bases-loaded walk to bring in one run, but Wysocki used three popups to limit the damage.

The Bulls would put up a three-spot in the fifth on another Pirate error and an RBI single. USF loaded the bases with a pair of hit-by-pitches and a double from Mo Santos. After a double play put two on the board, Donovan reached on a two-base error, plating Evans and Santos. Wyckoff followed with an RBI single, plating Donovan and giving USF an 8-1 lead.

Once again, the Pirates responded, this time with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning. Nunn came in to get USF out a bases-loaded jam, keeping the damage to just three runs.

For the third time in the game, the Bulls plated multiple runs in an inning. A pair of singles put runners on the corners in the sixth inning, before Fung came home on a wild pitch. Evans' second RBI of the day would bring home Nunn and make it a 10-3 game.

Weber added a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh for the final score of 11-3.

Susan Wysocki picked up the win, throwing 3.1 innings of relief. Four different pitchers combined to throw eight strikeouts and give up just three runs on six hits. The offense was highlighted by Nunn, Evans and Santos who combined to go 6-for-9 at the plate with five runs.

The final game of the series is set for Saturday, March 26, at noon on the American Digital Network.
