Men’s Basketball Lands Six Nationally Televised Games

October 04, 2023

IRVING, Texas (October 4, 2023) – The American Athletic Conference announced the TV designations for the 2023-24 men's basketball season on Wednesday. The University of South Florida men's basketball team will be featured on national TV for six games.

Two of the first four games in conference play will be on national TV. Five of the six games will be inside the friendly confines of the Yuengling Center.

The first game will be on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. on ESPNU when the Bulls will host the Rice Owls. South Florida and Rice have only met once, and USF won that meeting 49-46 on November 30, 1997.

South Florida will be on ESPN or ESPN2 on Thursday, Jan. 18, for a showdown at Memphis at 7 p.m. The Bulls are set to take on the Tigers inside FedExForum, where the Memphis Grizzlies play.

USF will have four games on national TV in February. The first will be on ESPNU as Charlotte makes the trip to Tampa for a 9 p.m. tipoff. The Bulls are 29-25 against the 49ers and have won three of the last four meetings. USF won the last meeting 78-76 on December 12, 2017, in Tampa.

South Florida hosts Tulsa for a Valentine's Day matchup on Feb. 14 with the tip coming at 7 p.m. on ESPNU. The Bulls swept the two meetings last season, including a 75-56 victory inside the Yuengling Center.

USF welcomes FAU on Sunday, Feb. 18, at noon on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The Bulls are 14-2 all-time against the Owls, with USF winning the last meeting, 60-58, on December 29, 2019.

The final national broadcast is slated for Sunday, Feb. 25, on ESPNU as SMU makes the trek to Tampa. The Bulls won the last meeting in Tampa, 71-67, on Feb. 25, of last year.

About USF Men's Basketball
The South Florida men's basketball team is led by Amir Abdur-Rahim, who was named the 11th head coach in program history on March 29, 2023. Abdur-Rahim was named the 2023 Mid-Major Coach of the Year (Hugh Durham Award) after leading Kennesaw State to its first-ever Division I NCAA Tournament berth in 2022-23. Abdur-Rahim's Kennesaw State team set an NCAA record as the fastest team to ever reach the NCAA Tournament after a one-win campaign, accomplishing the feat in a span of just three seasons. He was also named the 2022-23 NABC District 3 and ASUN Coach of the Year after leading Kennesaw State to both the regular season and tournament titles, and a school-record 26 wins.

USF has retired three numbers in its history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30), and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids, appeared in the NIT eight times, and won the 2019 College Basketball Invitational.
