TAMPA (April 17, 2023) – The University of South Florida Bulls conclude a four-game road swing with non-conference action at North Florida on Tuesday, April 18. Following the midweek tilt, the Bulls will open a season-long seven-game homestand.
South Florida is looking to snap a six-game skid to North Florida. Five of those losses have come by three runs or fewer. Three of the decisions have been one-run ballgames, including three of the last four, and a 5-4 10-inning loss to UNF in Tampa on April 4th.
Bobby Boser and Jack Cebert were named to this week's American Athletic Conference Honor Roll. Boser belted five home runs and hit .438 with eight RBI and eight runs scored over four games last week. Cebert logged a career-best 7.1 IP and turned in his fourth quality start of the season on Sunday at Houston in USF 13-2 victory.
USF has scored at least 10 runs in four of its last six games, and is averaging 10.1 runs per game on offense in that span. Along with Boser, Drew Brutcher has been red-hot at the plate. Brutcher batted .556 (5-for-9) with five walks and three homers during the Houston series. He is batting .417 (15-for-36) with four doubles, four homers and 11 RBI over his last 10 games.
Brutcher homered in each game of the Houston series to become the first Bull with a home run in three consecutive games since he did so during his freshman campaign against Stetson in 2021. Brutcher enters the week tied for 10th all-time in program history for career home runs (27).
Daniel Cantu has been another bat leading the offense this season and has already set new career highs in doubles (12) and homers (9), while matching career highs in hits (49) and RBI (36).
True freshman Eric Snow enters the week with a team-best .341 batting average.
Probable Pitching Matchup
Tuesday – LHP Nolan Hudi (1-2, 5.59 ERA) vs. RHP Will Ohme (1-1, 7.11)
