April 02, 2026 | Track & Field
Bulls boast No. 2-ranked 4x400m relay in the nation and multiple top-15 marks entering weekend competition
GAINESVILLE, Fla., April 2, 2026 - The University of South Florida track and field program travels to Gainesville, Florida, to continue the outdoor season at the Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium this weekend.
South Florida enters the Florida Relays with national momentum, earning a No. 20 ranking in the first USTFCCCA National TFRI poll of the outdoor season. The Bulls sit ahead of several Power 4 programs, including Michigan State, Florida, Arizona State, Clemson, NC State, Auburn and Iowa.
That standing is fueled by early-season marks that have positioned South Florida among the nation's best.
The Bulls' 4x400m relay of Kelsey Singleton, Nathan Metelus, Joshua Crum and Alexavier Monfries has emerged as one of the top units in the country, clocking a 3:05.60 at the USF Alumni Invitational to rank second nationally. South Florida's 4x100m relay group of Shomari Pettigrew, Jaleel Croal, Metelus and Cayden Broadnax has also made an early statement, posting a 39.66 to rank 14th in the nation.
Individually, Croal has been one of the fastest sprinters in the country, running 10.14 in the 100m to rank third nationally. Metelus adds depth with a 200m time of 20.64, placing him 13th in the nation.
In the middle distances, Karim Belmahdi's 1:48.78 in the 800m ranks 13th nationally, while the hurdles group continues to show depth. Will "Jaiden" Smith (13.95) and Darian Mills (13.99) rank 22nd and 26th in the country, respectively, in the 110m hurdles.
