Bulls Split at Villanova

VILLANOVA, Penn. ? The University of South Florida softball team suffered its first conference loss as it dropped 2-1 to Villanova in game two of Sunday's doubleheader.

USF fell to 32-13 overall and 7-1 in BIG EAST play, while Wildcats improved to 13-14 and 3-5.

Villanova scored both unearned runs in the second inning capitalizing off of an error and a bases on balls from the Bulls defense.

The Bulls scored their only run of the game in the fifth when, with two runners on base, senior Kit Dunbar hit an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error.

Freshman outfielder Kelly McCarver got on base on a single to second base and reached home on the throwing error to cut the Wildcats' lead to one.

Dunbar finished the game 2-for-3 and an RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Kristen Gordon, who shut out the Wildcats through five innings, was accounted for the loss falling to 2-5 in the season.

A season-high 12 runners were left on base as the Bulls recorded three hits and tied the season-high mark drawing nine walks.

The Bulls will return to the USF Softball Field on Friday, April 11 to meet Pittsburgh. The first game of the doubleheader is slated for 4 p.m.
