
USF at Maryland PDF box score
TAMPA - The No. 18 University of South Florida men's soccer team upset the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins, 2-1, in a final tune-up for the regular season at Ludwig Field in College Park, Md.
“It was a good game for us,” said head coach George Kiefer. “Maryland did a good job in the first half that exposed problems for us and in the second half we made some adjustments. Our guys did a good job and it was nice to come back at Maryland and get the result on the road but we still have a lot of work to do.”
In the 16th minute of the game, Maryland scored it first goal coming from a header from Terrapin Jason Herrick. USF did not record a shot in the first half.
The Bulls came charging in the second half, outshooting Maryland 5-2. USF evened the score at one in the 81st minute. After a Herrick hard foul and yellow card, USF took full advantage of the ensuing free kick when senior midfielder Kevon Neaves put it into the back of the net. No more than two minutes later, in the 83rd minute, the Bulls went ahead when sophomore midfielder Bernardo Anor received a cross from junior midfielder Armante Marshall that he knocked into the upper right of the goal. Anor led the Bulls with three shots, including two on goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Attinella shutout the Terrapins in the second half recording two saves. Fellow Sohpomore goalkeeper Diego Restrepo was in goal for the Bulls in the first half.
USF finished preseason 1-0-2. The Bulls entered Friday's matchup with a pair of ties this preseason, matching the University of Tampa, 0-0, and the U-17 Venezuelan team, 1-1.
USF begins the regular season on Aug. 30 when the Bulls host Bowling Green at 7:30 p.m.
