LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Today's contest between the University of South Florida women's basketball team and the University of Louisville was a match-up of two teams that played in the championship game of their respective postseason tournament's last season. USF advanced to the title game of the 2009 Women's National Invitation Tournament defeating Kansas in the title game, while the Cardinals came out on the losing end of the NCAA National Championship game against fellow BIG EAST Conference member Connecticut.

This year things have come a bit tougher for both teams, but Saturday's game at Freedom Hall had a lot at stake for positioning in the BIG EAST standings as the conference tournament looms on the horizon next week in Hartford.

The Bulls, however, stepped up and put a dark cloud over Louisville's senior day - in addition to the final regular season women's basketball game to ever be played in Freedom Hall - as they snapped their three-game losing streak with a 63-60 win over the Cardinals on three point shot by Allyson Speed with just under four seconds in the game.

Speed would lead the way for USF with a career-high 24 points on 8-13 shooting from the field, all of which came from behind the three-point arc.

Jessica Lawson would add 17 points and KeNeisha Saunders 15 points in the win. Tahira Johnson grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds.

USF came out of the gate and took advantage of some early bad shooting by Louisville in the first half.

The Bulls would jump out to their largest lead of the half, 16-6, on a three-point shot by KaNeisha Saunders with 10:58 left in the first stanza, while shooting 46.2 percent (6-13) in the nine-plus minutes. During that same stretch, USF would hold the Cardinals to just 2-14 shooting from the floor (14.3 percent).

Louisville, however would use a 9-0 run to cut the Bulls' lead to one-point, 16-15, on a Keisha Hines free throw with 5:57 left in the half.

Speed would then give USF a cushion hitting its next three field goals - all coming beyond the three-point arc - to give the Bulls a 25-19 edge with 3:30 left before the intermission.

The Cardinals would then close out the first half on a 9-3 run - with four of the nine points coming from Monique Reid - to cut the lead to three, 28-25, at the break.

Reid would come out in the second half and score Louisville's first four points, including two free throws less than 40 seconds into the half to give the Cardinals their first lead of the game, 29-28.

Speed would then get USF back on top hitting back-to-back trey's to give the Bulls a 35-33 lead with 16:11 left on the clock.

USF would extend its lead to eight points twice, 41-33 with 13:40 left when Saunders hit two free throws, and then 43-35 with 13:03 left in the contest on a jumper Jessica Lawson.

From that point on neither team would lead by more than five points, and there would be four ties in the final 12 minutes of the game.

Louisville would regain its edge and push it to the three points, three times, with the final time coming on the second of two made shots from the charity stripe by Reid with 4:24 left.

Both teams would go back-and-fourth until Hines gave the Cardinals its final lead of the contest after she was fouled on a breakaway. Hines would miss the front end of the two shots, and hit the second giving Louisville a 58-56 lead with 1:27 left in the game.

On the next possession, Lawson would tie the game at 58-all with 1:10 left, and then, after a missed three by Beck Burke, Saunders would put the Bulls up two, 58-50, with 44 seconds left on the clock.

Hines would then tie the game at 60 on a lay-up with 33 left, before Speed hit the game winner.

Burke would have a final attempt to tie the contest, however her shot was blocked by Tiffany Conner.

On the afternoon, USF would shoot 41.1 percent from the field (23-56) while Louisville hit 35.1 percent (20-57) of its shots from the floor.

Reid would lead Louisville with a career-high 32 points in the loss.

USF returns home for its final regular season game of the 2009-10 season when it butts heads with DePaul on March 1 at 7 p.m.

The contest with the Blue Demons will be televised live in the Tampa Bay area on Bright House Sports Network (cable channel 47).

The Bulls will then head to then head to the northeast to take part in the BIG EAST Tournament at the XL Center, March 5-9.
