TAMPA -  Sophomore Janine Richardson extended her hit streak to eight games, but it was not enough as the University of South Florida softball team (21-24 overall, 6-8 BIG EAST) lost its third straight game to the DePaul Blue Demons (29-14, 13-3), 8-0 in six innings Sunday afternoon.

"Janine is a team player," said head coach Ken Eriksen. "She works hard for her game; she is a perfectionist. You can see the players that are working hard and the ones that are being successful right now."

Using four pitchers on the USF staff, the Bulls failed to hold the Blue Demon offense in the third game of the series.

"We thought using four pitchers would offset the offensive attack that DePaul has put together," said Eriksen.

Redshirt sophomore Capri Catalano earned her first start in conference play but lasted only 3.0 innings. The North Brunswick, N.J., native allowed one run on three hits, walking one and striking out two.  Senior Kristen Gordon, sophomore Brittany Bowles and freshman Lindsey Richardson each tossed an inning of relief.

"I can't take away from what the two Richardsons (Lindsey and Janine) have done this year," said Eriksen. "They have been very consistent for us."

The Blue Demons outhit the Bulls, 11-3, led by multi-hit performances by Alex Morocco, Brittney Yniguez, Marie Thompson and Lynsey Ciezki. Seniors Tara Toscano and JoJo Medina, along with Richardson, were the only Bulls to record a hit.

Richardson hustled on a single up the middle by senior JoJo Medina to put runners on the corners with two outs in the fourth. Senior Alison Savarese roped a ball down the third base line but a nice grab by Ciezki ended the Bulls only rally of the game.

The Bulls look to get back to their winning ways as they face Bethune-Cookman tomorrow for a doubleheader in Daytona Beach, Fla., with the first game beginning at 2 p.m.

"Right now we need to go out there and dig deep," said Eriksen. "We need to find some pride, if not for yourself, do it for the University of South Florida. Do it for your school."
