USF Wins 15 Events in First Outdoor Home Meet
March 12, 2011 | Track & Field
TAMPA --- The University of South Florida hosted its first home meet of the season on Friday and finished the competition with 15 first-place finishes and several BIG EAST qualifying marks.
"Overall, I think we had a great meet," said associate head coach Lissa Olson. "We are very pleased as a coaching staff ... several of our athletes had new life-time bests and BIG EAST qualifying marks. Antillio's 200 meter dash performance was a pleasant surprise. In my three years here, he has only been a jumper, but he ran the race and won! Dariel [Jackson] had personal bests in 100m and 200m, so we are proud that she won her two events and David Aristil showed his talent range by running the 800 meter dash and competing in the 400-meter hurdles for us and he won both events."
Jackson set a new personal record when she ran a 11.75 in the 100 meter dash, shattering her old record of 11.90 she set last year. The mark moves her up to the No. 3 spot on the all-time outdoor top-10 list in the event.
Also in the 200 meters, Jackson broke her previous record of 24.39 with a time of 23.92 on Friday. With the new personal best, she moves from the No. 7 spot to the No. 3 spot in the 200 meters on the all-time list.
With the two times, Jackson qualified for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in May.
In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Ena Johnson moved into the No. 4 spot in the record books when she sprinted a 13.73, taking second place on the day.
Freshman Marqueshia Stallworth had a leap of 39-6.50 in the triple jump to land at No. 8 in the record books. The mark is also a personal best for the jumper.
Lauren Noe, a junior thrower, had a new personal-best mark of 152-5 in the discus, replacing her previous best throw of 148-7 she set back in 2009.
On the men's side, sophomore Antillio Bastian competed in the first 200 meter event of his collegiate career and took home first place with a time of 21.59. The mark is the third-best in school history and also a BIG EAST qualifying mark.
Teammate Aristil moved up to second in the record books when he posted a 14.08 in the 110-meter hurdles. The time replaces his previous best 14.15 he set last year.
Freshman Bryan Kilts took home second in the long jump with a leap of 23-3.50 and broke into the school record books at the No. 5 spot, beating several marks that were eight-plus years old.
Fellow freshman Joseph Hall also entered the Bulls record books (6th) in javelin when he threw 181-5, which was a collegiate personal best.
