Wagner and von Eynatten Break School Records
March 19, 2011 | Track & Field
TAMPA --- The University of South Florida track and field team honored their seniors at the Bulls Invitational on Friday and broke two school records along the way.
"Anytime you have school records, it's always good," said head coach Warren Bye. "Overall, we had good performances but I could tell we've been off for a week [because of spring break]. We'll get them back into class, into rhythm and into the routine and get them back to what they need to do."
Denise von Eynatten broke the outdoor school pole vault record for the second time in her career, jumping a height of 14-0 to take home first place. The All-American had previously set the school record back in 2008 with a leap of 13-5.25.
Also with the mark, von Eynatten qualifies for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in May.
Junior Casey Wagner competed in her first meet of the outdoor season and took first place with a throw of 156-1 in the javelin. The heave was the second school record of the day and was also a personal best for Wagner as well as a BIG EAST qualifying mark.
Senior pole vaulter Stephanie Duffy beat her previous PR of 13-1.50 by nearly five inches, jumping 13-6.25 in the competition to place second.
Teammate Dana Webb also had a jump of over 13 feet. It is the first time in USF history that three pole vaulters have jumps of 13-feet-plus.
Dariel Jackson had her second-best outing of the year when she ran the 100 meter dash in 11.89 seconds. Jackson currently sits at third in the all-time record books with a top time of 11.75, which she set last weekend at the USF Open.
Senior Kristy Cooper also set a new PR in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:30.69, over a minute faster than her time last week at the USF Open (11.43.42). Her previous PR was 11:27.42, which she set back in 2009.
Junior Lauren Noe also had a big day. In the hammer throw, she set a new personal record with a toss of 182-4, which is also a BIG EAST qualifying mark.
On the men's side, David Hunter broke into the all-time top 10 list when he ran a time of 10.74 in the 100 meter dash. The time is a new PR for him.
Pascal Orelus is now tied at second place in the all-time record book with teammate David Aristil in the 400m after running a 47.50, which is a new personal best for the sprinter.
In the long jump, Neamen Wise took home first place with a leap of 24-5.50, which is a new PR for the sophomore and a BIG EAST qualifying mark. The jump also moves him into third place on the all-time outdoor list.
Freshman Shane Lewis competed in the triple jump for the first time this season and leapt into the No. 4 spot in the record books with a leap of 48-8, which is a new PR for him and a BIG EAST qualifying mark.
Mike Vani and Kendall Schafers also had BIG EAST qualifying marks when they jumped 15-7 in the pole vault. It is a new career-best for Schafers as well.
In his first discus throw of the season, junior Jared Thomas threw a 178-8 mark. His personal best in the discus is 193-6 and is well on his way of breaking that record.
Freshman Joseph Hall moves to fifth in the all-time outdoor record books after a heave of 184-3 in the javelin. The mark is also a new personal best for him.
