DALLAS (Nov. 9, 2015)— For the second straight season, the USF women's soccer team earned a bid to host the first round of the NCAA tournament, welcoming FGCU to Corbett this season. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m..
"We are excited for our home game," head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said. "It's a great draw for us. They're a tough opponent, but we're just going to take this one game at a time."
FGCU finished the season with a 13-5-2 record and an Atlantic Sun Championship. The Eagles earned an automatic bid to the tournament with their win in the A-Sun tournament.
USF received a bid to the NCAA tournament after posting 15 wins on the season and advancing once again to the American Athletic Conference Tournament championship match. The Bulls fell in penalty kicks, 4-2, to Cincinnati, who earned the conference's automatic berth.
The Bulls are currently 15-3-3 on the season, tying the record for most wins in program history. This is just the second time the Bulls have reached 15 wins and is the most under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown.
The 15 wins marks the fifth time that Schilte-Brown has led a team to a 10-plus win season and fourth in a row. Schilte-Brown's previous season best was 14 wins when she led her 2010 squad to a 14-6-3 record and a second round NCAA tournament appearance.
This marks the second straight year USF has advanced to the NCAA tournament and third time overall. In 2010, USF picked up its first NCAA tournament win over Auburn before falling to Florida State. In 2014, the Bulls hosted Illinois State in the first round, falling 3-2 at Corbett Stadium.
USF is currently undefeated at home, posting a 6-0-1 home record and out-scoring opponents 18-2 at Corbett Stadium. The Bulls are on a three-game undefeated streak and put together an eight-game undefeated streak to begin the year.
"It's Corbett Stadium and it's where we want to be," Schilte-Brown said. "We have the most amazing fan club in the country. We know they'll be out in full force and that's important to us."
