Box Score

MEMPHIS, Tenn., April 15, 2016 – Erica Nunn threw four innings of one-hit ball and Cassidy Boyle recorded a career high three hits as the USF softball team shut out Memphis, 8-0, in five-innings Friday afternoon.

The Bulls (37-10, 9-1 American) moved into a tie for first place in the conference standings with the win as UCF dropped the first game of a conference doubleheader with Houston.

Nunn improved to 21-6 on the season with her dominant outing. The senior struck out six batters in the four-inning performance, walking just one and giving up just one hit. Susan Wysocki threw the final innings, striking out a pair. Dating back to the first game of the UConn series, the Bulls have now thrown 23 scoreless innings.

The Bulls struck first in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from Kristen Wyckoff. A hit-by-pitch and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for Wyckoff who drove home Lauren Evans on the sacrifice fly.

Using four hits and two Tiger errors, the Bulls broke open the game in the top of the fourth inning.

Cassidy Boyle led off with her second hit of the night and moved to second on a fielder's choice and an error. A bunt single from Wyckoff and a throwing error allowed Boyle to score from second making it a 2-0 game. Back-to-back hits from Juli Weber and Mo Santos plated another pair of runs and chased the Memphis starting pitcher from the game.

Lee Ann Spivey reached on a fielder's choice to move Santos to third, and a pair of wild pitches would plate the pair, making it a 6-0 game.

In the fifth, the Bulls would plate another pair of runs. Boyle led off with a single and came around on a fielder's choice and two errors by the Tigers defense. Weber would score Astin Donovan on a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0 USF and put the run-rule in effect.

Boyle finished the day 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and Wyckoff finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

USF and Memphis will meet for game two of the series on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. The final game of the series is set for noon on Sunday, April 17.
