TAMPA, NOV. 18, 2015 – No. 14 USF men's soccer is back in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2013 and the Bulls look forward to a tremendous home field advantage.
After a first-round bye, USF will face Boston College 1 p.m. Sunday at Corbett Stadium. The Bulls have gone 9-1-2 at home this season and head coach George Kiefer contributes a lot of his team's success to the loyal and rowdy fans in the stands.
“The players have worked hard all year and I know they get a bit more of a buzz when there is a good crowd out there,” Kiefer said. “They press better, they attack more and they defend better. It just gives them more energy and it's a really neat thing to see how much the crowd can impact the game.”
Tickets for Sunday's showdown are $6 for general admission seats (adult and youth) and students with a valid college ID can get in for just $1. The first 250 USF students through the gate get in free and Kiefer looks forward to seeing the stands and berms filled with Green and Gold.
“As a coach, it's really neat to see Corbett packed because you know what it does for the players,” Kiefer said.
The last time USF hosted NCAA tournament games was back in 2012, when the Bulls defeated FGCU in penalty kicks before falling in the second round to Tulsa. The season before that, USF knocked UCF and New Mexico out of the NCAA tournament at Corbett Stadium on the way to the program's second Elite Eight appearance.
Fans attending USF home games have had a lot to cheer about this season. Both USF teams went undefeated at Corbett Stadium in the regular season and Kiefer's squad has outscored opponents, 21-8, at home.
Fans can purchase $6 general admission seats for Sunday's game now at USFBullsTix.com. Discounted student tickets and general admission tickets can be purchased on game day at the USF box office in front of Corbett Stadium.
The men's soccer program has been one of the most successful on campus over the years, advancing to seven NCAA tournaments in the last eight seasons. The Bulls return 13 letterwinners and five starters from 2014 on top of bringing in the third-ranked signing class according to College Soccer News. They won the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship in 2013 and head coach George Kieferhas also led the Bulls to two Elite Eight appearances and four conference/division titles in his 13 seasons as the head man.
