Tampa, Fla., Feb. 10, 2022 – The University of South Florida track and field team wraps up its regular season at the Badgers Windy City Invite this weekend in Chicago, Ill. It's the Bulls' last meet prior to the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships later this month.
"I want our student athletes to continue to execute the training to the best of their ability in Chicago," head coach Erik Jenkins said. "The city of Chicago has invested in an outstanding facility that we are excited to compete in. The meet has a unique balance of teams and should provide excellent competition."
Competition in the high jump kicks off the Windy City Invite at 1 p.m. on Friday, with Annia Ashley (Kingston, Jamaica) for the women and Romaine Beckford (Portland, Jamaica) and Kendell Mosley (Niceville, Fla.) for the men looking to move further up the program's top-10 list. Ashley posted a 5-8 in the high jump last weekend, placing tied for sixth on the program's list. Beckford and Mosley currently rank first and seventh, respectively, on the USF men's list.
At 3 p.m., Shaniya Benjamin (Tampa, Fla.) will lead South Florida's women contingent in the long jump. She'll look to better her personal best of a 20-3 ½ that she posted last season.
Eron Carter (Palatka, Fla.) and Alliya Boothe (Bloomfield, Conn.) represent USF in the weight throw on Friday to wrap up the day's field competitions.
In 60-meter qualifying, Jadaja Baxter (Sandy Springs, Ga.) and Zayne Jack (Lutz, Fla.) will run for the women.
Following the women's and men's distance medley at 6:40 p.m. and 6:55 p.m., Hannah Connell (Bridgetown, Barbados), Zahria Allers-Liburd (Miami, Fla.) and Dreshaun Sanders (Kansas City, Mo.) leads USF's representation in the 200 meters to finish competition on Friday. Connell and Allers-Liburd currently sit at seventh and eighth, respectively, on USF's all-time list while Sanders is tied for fifth on the men's list.
On Saturday to begin field competition, Boothe represents South Florida in the women's shot put, while USF's duo of Stone Baker (New Port Richey, Fla.) and Kobe Babin (Niceville, Fla.) battle in the pole vault competition. Both Baker and Babin earned first and second place finishes in last weekend's meets.
Allers-Liburd will represent the Bulls in the 400-meter dash. She sits at sixth on USF's best list with a 55.90 she ran earlier this season. Meanwhile, Jasmine Knowles (Nassau, Bahamas) leads USF's entries in the 800-meter dash. She posted a 2:11.36 in the event earlier this year, the fourth-best mark in program history.
After breaking her own program record twice last weekend at the Crimson Invitational, Shaneylix Davila (Kissimmee, Fla.) will look to keep up her success in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday alongside Connell, who posted an 8.28 last weekend to take second on the program's top-10 list behind Davila. On the men's side, Michael Bourne III (Midlothian, Va.) and Victor Steiner (La Libertao, El Salvador) seek to move up from third and fifth, respectively, on USF's all-time list.
Competition at The Badgers Windy City Invitational wraps up on Saturday with the men and women's 4x400 relay.
