Daily Links? In his blog, Greg Auman talks to former Cincinnati defensive end Connor Barwin about playing under Joe Tressey. Auman
writes,"Cincinnat i defensive end Connor Barwin only played one season under new USF defensive coordinator
Joe Tresey, but said the former Bearcats coach should bring the same ball-hawking style to the Bulls this spring.
"His biggest strength, and why we had a lot of our success, is that he runs a very sound defense," said Barwin, a first-team All-Big East selection after tying for the conference lead with 11 sacks in 2008. "He's not going to take a lot of big chances, but he won't give up big plays, either."
? Auman breaks down the scenarios of who the Bulls will play in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament. He writes,"...There's actually still four different teams USF could face -- Notre Dame, Seton Hall, Georgetown or St. John's. All four teams could finish with the No. 11 seed, and USF has lost to all four, all by at least 10 points. Of the four, USF arguably played best against Notre Dame, losing by 10 on the road, as opposed to losing by 15 at Seton Hall, 17 at St. John's and 25 at home against Georgetown."
? Auman also takes a look at the women's post season resume as they head to Hartford for the BIG EAST Championships.
? Brian Bennett of ESPN.com writes that Tresey brings expertise to Bulls' staff. As part of his preseason check up series, Bennett takes a look at the Bulls kicker Maikon Bonani and states that the Bulls special teams should be in good hands.
? David Dorsey of the Fort Myer's News Press writes that former Bulls standout Anthony Henry looks forward to aiding Lions.

Graham Hays of ESPN.com writes that the potential second round match-up between eigthth seeded Bulls and ninth seeded Marquette as one of the games in the BIG EAST tournament to be a game with the most riding on it for both teams.

? Greg Auman takes a look back at last night's game as he recaps the win over Cincinnati at the Sun Dome. He writes," USF hadn't won in nearly a month, and freshman guard Justin Leemow hadn't hit a shot from the field in even longer, going 0-for-23 over an eight-game stretch.
But Tuesday was a good night for streaks to end. Leemow broke out of his slump with three 3-pointers in the second half, and Dominique Jones scored 30 to lead USF to a 70-59 upset of Cincinnati in the Sun Dome.
"It gives us a lot of confidence, a momentum builder, and I think we need that," said Jones, who had 18 in the second half. "We started at the bottom, and I think we're moving our way up. This is a step to making history. It's our fourth win, and Saturday, we're going for five."
? Brett McMurphy reviews the Bulls fourth conference win of the season. He writes," They almost waited until it was too late, but the University of South Florida finally got that elusive fourth Big East victory.
Dominique Jones' 30 points paced the Bulls, who pulled away for a 70-59 victory against Cincinnati on Tuesday night.
In their previous three Big East seasons, the Bulls (9-20, 4-13 Big East) had never won more than three league games. Back on Feb. 6, they got a third Big East win, but had lost six consecutive games."
? Auman has a few interesting points in his wednesday notebook, including some comments from Bulls wide receiver coach Phil McGeoghan's college coach and about women's coach Jose Fernandez.
? McMurphy writes his take on the hiring of defensive coordinator Joe Tressey.
? Greg Auman takes a look at the hiring of new defensive coordinator Joe Tressey, He writes,"After two weeks of searching, USF coach Jim Leavitt has a new right-hand man on defense: Former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Joe Tresey, who has confounded USF the past two seasons, has accepted an offer to join the Bulls as a defensive coordinator.
Tresey, 50, came to Tampa on Tuesday for a second interview with Leavitt and accepted an offer to join the Bulls, replacing Wally Burnham, who resigned two weeks ago to take the same job at Iowa State. Tresey's defenses have helped Central Michigan and Cincinnati to conference championships the past three years, with a reputation for forcing turnovers and piling up sacks. "

? In his blog, Greg Auman takes an early look at where
Jose Fernandez's Bulls stand in the post season discussion. He writes,"A big win from USF's women's basketball team at Villanova, coupled with losses by Marquette and Georgetown, have given the Bulls a first-round bye in this weekend's Big East tournament in Hartford.
The Bulls, who opened 1-4 in the Big East, finished 8-8 to earn the eighth seed and a first-round bye, with Marquette and Georgetown finishing 7-9. This finish -- three straight wins for USF, three straight losses for Marquette -- solidifies USF's position on the NCAA bubble and badly damages Marquette's chances, but the two programs are likely to meet again Saturday at 2 p.m. in the second round of the tournament."

? Auman previews the men's home finale as they take on Cincinnati tonight at the Sun Dome.
? ESPN.com Blogger Brian Bennett writes that Bulls should be "feeling great" about their quarterback position heading into the spring ball. He writes,"The least questionable quarterback situation in the Big East is in Tampa, where senior Matt Grothe is ready to start for the fourth consecutive season. Grothe still needs to exhibit better decision-making in key spots, but new offensive coordinator Mike Canales should design an attack better suited to take advantage of his talent while not placing too much on his shoulders."
? Bennett also takes at the Bulls running back situation. He writes," The least questionable quarterback situation in the Big East is in Tampa, where senior Matt Grothe is ready to start for the fourth consecutive season. ? Greg Auman previews Jose Fernandez's Bulls big game against Villanova tonight in Philadelphia. He writes,"Huge game for USF's NCAA Tournament hopes as a win would put it at .500 in league play and give it a victory against an RPI top 50 team. ... USF loves an up-tempo, high-scoring game, while Villanova is frustratingly slow. The Wildcats haven't scored 70 this season, while USF has scored at least 75 in six straight. The Bulls are 1-7 when scoring fewer than 70, so the game should hinge on their ability to set the tempo."
? Greg Auman recaps the Bulls loss to WVU last night at the Sun Dome. He writes,"Short-handed and struggling to keep up with Big East competition for a full 40 minutes, USF is understandably showing signs of fatigue down the stretch. Sunday's 64-50 loss to West Virginia was the Bulls' sixth straight, all by at least 10 points.
"There's going to be a point in the game where you have go up one more notch to get over that hump and finish it. We're struggling to find that," said point guard Chris Howard, who had 10 points and matched a career high with 11 assists. "Hopefully, we have two more games and the mind-set is to finish out strong and get these two."
The Bulls (8-20, 3-13) played well early, leading 24-23 and trailing 30-27 at the half before a Sun Dome crowd announced at 5,082. West Virginia (20-9, 9-7) got a boost from senior guard Alex Ruoff, a Brooksville Central graduate who was held scoreless until 1:01 remained in the first half."
? Brett McMurphy's recap of the loss to WVU. McMurphy writes,"No one ever said competing in the Big East Conference was going to be easy for the University of South Florida basketball team. Trying to get through the league without three starters, though, has basically turned into a suicide mission.
The latest reminder was Sunday's 64-50 loss to West Virginia. The Bulls hung close for a half, but ultimately were running on fumes at the end.
Since upsetting No. 8 Marquette Feb. 6, the Bulls (8-20, 3-13) have lost their past six games - all by double figures."'
