? John Haley of the Courier News out of Central New Jersey takes a look at Bulls signee Mike Burwell. He writes,"On and off the basketball court, Cardinal McCarrick's Mike Burwell does not want to settle for anything less than the best.

On the court, Burwell made his lofty goals known to the world during the preseason, stating how he wanted to "win the GMC Tournament, make All-State, lead the state in scoring, prove I can play at a big Division I college and earn the Player of the Year Award."

With the exception of making All-State, which hasn't been announced yet, the man can actually put a check mark next to everything on his list."

Kelli Polson of the Oracle does a great feature on Bulls' men's tennis coach Don Barr and road he has traveled over his time at USF. Polson writes,"Two National Coach of the Year awards hang in Don Barr's office. They serve as a reminder of two of the toughest years the USF men's tennis coach has gone through.

He doesn't hold any regrets for what he went through, he said. He has learned from past experiences, which has helped him become a better coach and mentor."

Chris Harry of the Orlando Sentinel writes that Matt Grothe will not go lie down for anyone. He writes,"The rules at the start of South Florida's spring game Saturday included no live hits on the quarterbacks.

The rules changed after senior Matt Grothe, set to enter his third season as USF's starting quarterback, skirted the no-contact guidelines.

Tailback Mike Ford took a handoff on a play designed to go left but opted to reverse his field. Grothe saw the play coming back his way, made like a pulling offensive lineman and even stuck his shoulder into a defender and tried to clear an ally to the end zone."

? Phil Neary features Bulls' pitcher Teddy Kaufman and his road to recovery, as the lefty has found ahome at USF. Neary writes,"As a senior in high school, Kaufman suffered through one of the toughest baseball-related procedures: Tommy John surgery, or ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction. In the procedure, an elbow ligament is replaced by another tendon in the body.

The amount of stress placed on an elbow over a period of time is usually the determining factor on whether the surgery is necessary. For Kaufman, the stress became too much during a high school state semifinal game.

“I was about 10 pitches into the game when it got to a point where it was unbearable,” he said."

? Kelli Polson of the Oracle recaps the Bulls' 4-3 win over Marquette in the regular season finale at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. Polson writes," Senior Mahmoud Hamed will have a chance to end his college tennis career on a good note.

In its last regular season match, the No. 44 South Florida men's tennis team (11-8) defeated Marquette (16-7) 4-3 on Monday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

Hamed may be playing his last college match when the Bulls host the Big East championships Thursday through Sunday."

? Kelli Polson of the Oracle writes that Men's Tennis might be hitting their stride as regular season ends. Polson writes," All the problems USF has faced this season might be coming to an end at the right time ? just before the Bulls host the Big East Championships this week.

That will have to wait a couple more days, though, as the South Florida men's tennis team ends its regular season, hosting Marquette at 2 p.m. today at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

After beginning the season with five new players, USF has struggled to find consistent doubles partnerships because of injuries."

? Phil Neary of the Oracle recaps the Bulls'sweep over Georgetown in Washington, the Bulls third straight BIG EAST sweep. Neary writes,"It turns out the Bulls' expected hindrance entering this season ? the offense ? is becoming their greatest asset.

Sophomore Derrick Stultz had a career-high 10 strikeouts, sophomore Stephen Hunt hit his third home run in two games, and the Bulls beat Georgetown 7-2 in the series finale Saturday for a three-game sweep in Washington, D.C., this weekend.

USF has swept three of four Big East series this year and is off to its best 12-game start in conference play since 1996. "
