? ESPN.com's BIG EAST blogger Brian Bennett's has this to say about the Bulls' in his Big East power rankings, post-spring edition,"Matt Grothe and George Selvie give the Bulls the best returning duo in the league, but the team is young elsewhere. The offensive line is a huge question mark. The influx of talent coming to campus this summer should help. For once, South Florida might be better in November than September."

? Greg Auman takes a look at what's on the line this weekend as USF baseball travels to Louisville needing just win to claim their first BIG EAST regular season title. He
writes," Kudos to the folks who put together the Big East baseball schedule, which has the league's top two teams meeting in the final weekend as USF and Louisville square off starting tonight. If that weren't drama enough, you have USF coach
Lelo Prado returning to the program he coached for 11 seasons, leaving as the Cardinals' winningest coach with 320 career victories.
And while we've established that USF (32-20) can clinch a share of the regular-season Big East crown by winning just one of three games this weekend, there's more than first in play. Should USF fail to get that single win, the Bulls could fall as far as fourth place if West Virginia and St. John's are able to sweep their final series.
If there's something to be learned from USF softball missing the NCAA cut this week, it's that Prado's team, even with a regular-season Big East crown, likely needs to win the conference tournament to make the NCAAs. Softball's RPI was in the mid-40s and wasn't enough, and baseball's current RPI is 69, according to WarrenNolan.com."

? Brett McMurphy features what it would mean for Bulls' skipper
Lelo Prado to clinch the 2009 BIG EAST title at his former school Louisville. McMurphy
writes,"Before coming to the University of South Florida three years ago,
Lelo Prado spent 11 years building the University of Louisville program.
When he left the Cardinals, he had turned the baseball program around, guiding the Cardinals to their first NCAA Tournament and was UL's winningest coach.
When Prado joined USF, UL athletic director Tom Jurich said how happy he was for Prado. "Lelo did a fabulous job at Louisville, and I'll always be indebted to what he did for this program," Jurich said"
? Greg Auman takes a look at USF ace Randy Fontanez's resume to see his chances of being named BIG EAST Pitcher of the year. Auman writes,"On Monday night, the Big East's top eight baseball teams will gather in Clearwater for the league's postseason awards ceremony on the night before the conference tournament begins.
And since we now know that USF sophomore Randy Fontanez won't pitch this weekend, so as to be fully rested for Tuesday's tournament opener, the question can be asked: Does Fontanez deserve to be honored as the Big East Pitcher of the Year?
The statistics seem to point to Fontanez, who has the league's lowest ERA in conference play (2.48) and is tied for the league lead with a 6-1 conference record. Fontanez leads the league in innings pitched and has more complete games (4) than nine of the other 11 Big East teams have on their entire staff."

? ESPN.com BIG EAST blogger Brian Bennett does his USF spring wrap as he breaks down some of the questions surrounding the Bulls heading into fall camp. He writes," Quarterback Matt Grothe gushed about new offensive coordinator Mike Canales's system, which will have the Bulls in more of a true spread formation and call for more downfield passing. Canales and Grothe have formed a tight bond, and the Bulls should find better ways to utilize all their speed at the skill spots. Grothe cut way down on his interceptions this spring -- an encouraging sign."

? In his blog, Greg Auman talks with
Ken Eriksen as the tournament snub was a tough pill to swallow for Eriksen and his softball squad. He
writes," One day after the NCAA selection committee passed over USF's softball team for its 64-team postseason field, Bulls softball coach
Ken Eriksen was still disappointed that four teams lower in the RPI ratings where chosen instead of his team.
"We had inconsistency throughout the year, had our ups and downs, but we did what the NCAA required us to do," said Eriksen, speaking to the difficulty of his nonconference scheduling. "It's hard for me to think that the fourth-best team in the Big East isn't in, when the eighth or ninth teams are in from a different conference."'

? Greg Auman writes that the Bulls are one win away from their first BIG EAST regular season title. Auman
writes,"After dropping two games at Notre Dame and seeing its lead dwindle to a half-game, USF's baseball team picked up a huge 6-5 win Sunday, and the Bulls now need to win just one of three games at Louisville next weekend to clinch the Big East's regular-season championship.
The Bulls (31-19, 18-6) took a 5-3 lead in the eighth, only to see Notre Dame tie the game in the bottom of the inning, but freshman catcher Daniel Rockhold got an RBI single in the ninth for the winning margin. Reliever Joe Cole pitched a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts, to earn the win."

? The Chicago Tribune list Bulls' defensive end George Selvie as a one of the best prospects for the 2010 NFL draft. He writes,"George Selvie, South Florida defensive end. He had a down year because of a bum ankle, but if he can play like he did in 2008 and add some bulk, he'll be a hot commodity."
? Frank Cooney of the USA Today lists Selvie as the 20th ranked draft prospect for the 2010 draft. He writes,"George Selvie, DE, South Florida, 6-4, 252: Despite being slowed by a high ankle injury in 2008, he is the NCAA's active career leader in tackles for a loss with 79?."
? Joey Knight of the St. Pete Times recaps football signee Kamran Joyer's state championship performance. He writes,"Kamran Joyer didn't so much end his prep athletic career with a bang as he did with a bark.
Actually, it was more like a guttural yelp, which the brawny Wesley Chapel senior unleashed as the 12-pound metallic orb left his hand for the final time. As it ascended skyward, Joyer said, it felt like the best shot put attempt of his life.
The tape measure confirmed it.
On a sweltering, surreal day at Showalter Field, Joyer capped his high school career with a state title. His final shot put attempt ? 59 feet, 71/2 inches ? not only represented his personal-best effort but traveled nearly 7 feet farther than any other try."
