Brian Bennett of ESPN.com list's position groups that he believes that are absolutely loaded at the top of his list are Bulls' front four. He writes,"Probably the most impressive-looking group, physically speaking, that I saw all spring. The Bulls' D-line is full of tall, rangy, athletic specimens. There's George Selvie, of course, but don't forget about Terrell McClain and Aaron Harris. And when Jason Pierre-Paul and Ryne Giddins come in this summer, the defensive line is going to be even more loaded."

Bennett also mentions USF's talented receiving corp.

? Bennett also lists Joe Tresey, Mike Canales and David Blackwell as New Big East coordinators who will make biggest '09 impact

? Abraham Aboraya of the Seminole Chronicle has a neat article on USF ace Randy Fontanez writing that Lelo Prado and the Bulls have a firm block to build on at the top of their roatation moving forward. He writes,"When University of South Florida's 20-year-old starting pitcher Randy Fontanez comes home to Oviedo, he'll sometimes wrestle with his mom.

He'll put her in a headlock and try to get her to say uncle, but she never does. That's because the word quit isn't in the family dictionary - a lesson his father, Randy Fontanez Sr., has been preaching since the younger Fontanez was a little boy.

"He tells her to say uncle, but she's a fighter. She won't say it," the elder Fontanez said."

? Good Q&A from Greg Auman as he sat down with rising junior Dominique Jones, who is one of 17 college basketball players who have been invited to compete for 12 spots on the U.S. entry in the World University Games.

Brian Bennett of ESPN.com ranks the Big East backup quarterbacks and this to say about the Bulls' back-up QB situation;"It's not fair that the teams with the most settled starting quarterbacks also have two of the top three backup situations. But the way B.J. Daniels and Evan Landi played this spring gave Jim Leavitt confidence in the unlikely event that Matt Grothe actually misses some time.

Brett McMurphy recaps Saturday's loss to UConn. He writes,"For the second time in three years, the University of South Florida's season ended with a loss to UConn in the Big East Tournament semifinals.

The Bulls rallied late, but fell to the Huskies 10-8.

? The Bleacher Report breaks down football's top five rivals.

? The Bleacher Report also ranks the Bulls at No. 43 in its preseason ranking. It reads,"...Quarterback Matt Grothe and defensive end George Selvie, both seniors, will have one more chance to lead their team to the Big east title.  The thought of reaching that goal was enough to make Selvie, a two-time first-team All-American, forgo the NFL for one last try.

In order for that dream to become reality the Bulls must solve the ground-hog day like mid-season collapse that has plagues the squad the past two seasons."

? Auman also wraps up baseball with a short piece on freshman shortstop Sam Mende, who ended his freshman campaign on a tear 11-17 in the BIG EAST tournament including a 4 for 4 effort against UConn in the final game of the season. Auman writes,"A bright spot for USF in a disappointing finish to the Big East tournament was the strong play of freshman shortstop Sam Mende, who went 4-for-4 Saturday to finish the season on an eight-game hit streak.

"I honestly don't know where it came from. I wish I could have done it for the guys earlier in the year," said Mende, who went to Clearwater Central Catholic. "It came now and it was nice, a great feeling, but I just wish we could be playing a little longer."

Mende went 11-for-17 in the tournament with a team-high six RBIs, finishing two hits shy of the Big East record of 13, which was set in five games, one more than he played. In his final eight games, Mende raised his batting average from .280 to .319.
