? Greg Auman reports in his blog that,"USF junior right-hander Shawn Sanford, picked in the 13th round by the Giants, has opted to sign a pro contract rather than return for his senior year with the Bulls.
"It was kind of a spontaneous decision. I love USF so much and was looking forwar"d to next year, but it's a little more promising for me to start in the pros this year," said Sanford, already in Arizona and getting a physical with the Giants.
? Auman says that USF signee's Jefferson's Chad Taylor and Alonso's Ray Delphey picked USF over the pros.

Clebert, who last played for USF in the 2007 season, was part of the "Edison Five" from Miami's Edison High who signed with USF in 2004, along with running back Chad Simpson (now with the Colts), tackle Marc Dile (now with the Bucs), receiver Jackie Chambers (now in the CFL with Calgary) and linebacker Brouce Mompremier."

People Still Talking About Leavitt's 40
We all remember coach Leavitt's impressive 40 time and the college football world is still talking about it. Olin Buchannan of Rivals.com ranks the event as one of the Top 25 stories of the offseason checking in at No. 21. Here's what he had to say," RUN, JIM, RUN: To promote USF's spring game, coach Jim Leavitt "sprinted" 40 yards in 5.72 seconds before an April practice. Two days later, students ran 40-yard dashes in a combine before the spring game. Anyone who beat 5.72 seconds received T-shirts bearing the message, "I'm Faster Than Leavitt."

writes,"Today is the second day of a three-day camp in Colorado Springs for USF guard Dominique Jones as he tries to earn a spot on the U.S. entry in the World University Games next month in Serbia.
We'd told you that Jones had another guard to beat out when Arizona's Nic Wise was a late addition to the tryout roster, but the competition got a little easier this week with news that Kansas guard Sherron Collins withdrew from consideration, citing family concerns.

To set the stage, the University of South Florida is hosting what might be the most impressive in-season tournament ? of any sport ? in the school's history.
It's called the "Tampa Twice'' tournament ? and the participants would obviously love a return trip to Tampa for volleyball's Final Four."
? Brett McMurphy reports that USF baseball signee Chase Greene will opt to forego USF and sign with the Mets, however Ryan Lockwood and Shawn Stanford will return to USF. Greg Auman reports that there is a slim, outside chance that guard Mike Mercer may return to the team as a walk-on for the 2009-10 season. He writes," I'll preface this by making it clear that a few things have to happen before it's even a slight possibility, but USF coach
Stan Heath said Monday that he would consider
allowing senior guard Mike Mercer to rejoin the Bulls as a walk-on if he graduates as scheduled this summer and fulfills a pre-trial agreement that would have a

misdemeanor charge against him dropped.
"His focus and my focus is totally on him graduating," Heath said. "I really want (that) badly for him, and I think he's doing a good job in that area. I've really been pleased with how he's gone through this process of doing what he's supposed to, but it's been totally on him finishing school."
? With the recent completion of the MLB amatuer draft, Auman also takes a look at some of the scenarios facing some of the recently drafted current and future Bulls. He writes,"Admittedly, the headline is a bit misleading. We can't yet say with complete authority which of the two USF underclassmen and four signees taken in last week's baseball draft will be Bulls next season. We're starting to get a clearer picture, however. We'll address them in the order drafted:

? Greg Auman reports that former Bulls' defensive end Craig Kobel has signed with the Jets. He writes,"Here's an unexpected name added to the list of former USF players trying to make NFL rosters: Craig Kobel, who played defensive end for the Bulls, has been signed as a free-agent linebacker by the New York Jets.
Kobel, who last played for USF in 2004, had worked out for the Jets at a rookie tryout camp in May but was not signed at the time. Kobel played Arena Football in 2006, played in NFL Europa in 2007 and went through preseason camp with the Eagles that same year but was cut with an injury settlement. He had been drafted to play for the Florida team in the startup All-American Football League, but the league never got off the ground. "
