Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune
writes in The Wake-Up Call that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will honor former player and NFL Hall of Fame member Lee Roy Selmon as the first member of its Ring of Honor Nov. 8 during the team's throwback game. Writes Johnston, "In 1977, the Chicago Bears were locked in a scoreless tie with the Bucs at Tampa Stadium. When an assistant coach approached Bears offensive tackle Ted Albrecht at halftime, the player raised his head to reveal the face of a beaten man.
'Coach,' Albrecht said, 'there are four things in this world I do not want to do under any circumstance. No. 1, I don't want to milk a cobra. No. 2, I don't want to be buried at sea. No. 3, I don't want to be hit in the head with a hockey puck. And No. 4, I don't want to play the second half against Lee Roy Selmon.'

Mike Simmonds, who helped rescue a 12-year-old boy from a river in North Carolina during Simmonds' family vacation. Simmonds recalls that fateful day and how the boy's father showed great courage in rescuing his son before drowning in the river. "Mike Grady is a true hero because he gave his life to save his son," said Simmonds. "I've never seen anything like it."
Writes Auman, "Simmonds, 44 and entering his third season coaching the offensive line at USF, recounts the day as if it were yesterday, walking around his office, acting out his initial helplessness and frustration, reaching his arms out as he did June 28."
